BGN Girl: Aisha Tyler

Aisha Tyler is a self-proclaimed nerd who got her first break in Hollywood as the host of E! Entertainment's Talk Soup in 2001.  She was the first woman and African-American host on the Emmy award winning show.  She's appeared in a plethora of TV and Films and also had her own stand-up show on Comedy Central.

Here's another geeky fact about Aisha, she's an avid video gamer and in early May 2010 she presented Bungie's "Welcome to the Beta" video for Halo: Reach. She has also begun work as a voice actor for the upcoming game Halo: Reach.  Aisha is a celebrated author, releasing the successful Swerve: Reckless Observations of a Post-Modern Girl, a collection of hilarious essays on pop culture, in 2004. She is a frequent contributor to Glamour magazine, with several pieces about the media’s unrealistic portrayal of feminine beauty, and is a comedic columnist for Entertainment Weekly.

Aisha is deeply dedicated to charity and volunteerism, serving on the board of Planned Parenthood, directing a film to benefit returning wounded warriors, acting as spokesperson for the American Red Cross, teaching Dove self-esteem workshops for teenage girls, consulting with the trust for public land’s parks for people project, and fund-raising for doctors without borders, futures without violence, and the international rescue committee.

Shout out to AT for expressing who she truly is as a proud black girl nerd.  This video below says it all...check it out!
