My Crush On Gambit

I used to be a HUGE X-Men and Excalibur fan.  I was once an avid collector of comic books and I owned nearly every issue of both X-Men and Excalibur.  I even collected the Marvel comic cards.  As a young black girl most would assume that Storm was my favorite character, but actually I loved Nightcrawler.  He was my favorite.  He was witty, funny, and always getting into trouble.  I also loved Jean Grey and her metamorphosis to Phoenix as Rachel Summers.

Perhaps I liked Nightcrawler because his special powers of teleportation and I always felt myself that I wanted to disappear and reappear at will.  He also had an undying love for Megan who was in a relationship with Captain Britain and Megan couldn't quite reciprocate those feelings.  I know what that's like for sure.  Nightcrawler was the MAN in my book and I was fascinated with his story.

However, a new MAN came into my comic-driven life when I was introduced to Gambit.  It actually started in the early 90's on the TV series X-Men Adventures.  He was cool, suave, and had tons of swagger.  He also has this awesome Cajun accent that just made my heart flutter.  If this post isn't nerdy enough---I actually developed a crush on the guy.  Yes I had a total crush on a fictional cartoon character!  Does that make me a geek or just plain weird?  Either way, Gambit had it all---good looks, a sexy accent, charisma, and he was a bachelor.  I speak in past tense, because this was a couple of decades ago when I felt this way, but I still remember like it was yesterday when I had an obsession with comic books.

I was little jealous of Rogue, because she was the apple of Gambit's eye, but Rogue was never really into Gambit as much as he was into her.  I also had a thing for Wolverine---now I'm probably not alone here when I drop his name, because there are several girls who may agree that Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine was the best casting decision ever.   I can't think of any other actor who can embody the hotness that is---Wolverine like Mr. Hugh Jackman himself.

Gambit needs his own movie.  Currently actor Taylor Kitsch plays Remy Lebeau (aka Gambit) but I'm not feelin his accent.  He actually LOOKS the part, but I need that Cajun accent.  The actor who played Rene on True Blood definitely has the Cajun voice down.    :::Swoon:::

Here is an example of what I an talking about.  Michael Raymond-James as Rene on True Blood (kinda ironic that Anna Paquin who plays Rogue is in this scene):

Here is the actual cartoon character I swooned over when I first got hooked on X-Men:
