We all have our comfort food that can inject zest in our daily grind. Some prefer sweets (cakes, brownies, etc.), plates of lechon, foie gras, or a martini. In the case of rebounding actress (RA), she has her “comfort drink” which she needs for a special reason.
After a hiatus from acting, RA is on a roll on finding means to get back her career. No doubt, RA is one of the most competent thespians, but the lack of challenging roles has affected her acting. Of course, the pressure from her audience hovers. If she disappoints them, her comeback will be for naught, and it would be difficult for her to get another break from any network.
On the set of her teleserye, RA's uneasiness was noticed when she kept forgetting her lines in a scene. RA had difficulty bringing out her emotions, and she had to find a solution. She called on her production assistant to bring her "iced tea." RA drank her iced tea, and like an elixir, she suddenly transformed into an intense performer. The director was elated with the result.
Sometimes, the iced tea would normally be in some unassuming container. Thus, whenever the director would notice RA is off, the joke was, “RA, take some iced tea.” The “iced tea” joke was prevalent on the set as it just took a drink for RA to be back to her acting best. However, her fellow actors already smelled something funny during their scenes with her after she took her “iced tea.”
That should not be surprising as “iced tea” was just a code for hard drink. Alas, RA has been into her “addiction" to this day. Does an acting great like her need an external enhancement to bring out her best ? Then, again, she might just sit down for a talk over a round of iced tea.
There's only one reason why a character drinks: to seek confrontation. To fight for what they want in ways normally denied them. ~ Michael Shurtleff
