The Best Kissing Cartoons

I shared a little anecdote on last week’s BGN Cartoonmania podcast about my affinity for Jem and the Holograms. What struck me when I first saw that cartoon was seeing this pink haired girl kissing this purple haired boy. It was a deep, romantic, intimate kiss and was something I had never seen in animation before as a 7 year old kid. I guess because kissing is such an intimate, human, and real act, that seeing it in the world of cartoon fiction felt jarring in a way that was intriguing to me.  Cartoons quite frankly are not supposed to engage in the act of kissing because that was just too real. Of course now as an adult, I've been exposed to cartoons that do way more than kiss, (i.e., Hentai anime) but I prefer to reminisce during those sweet innocent times when it was a big deal to see two cartoon characters kissing!

Here is a list of some of my favorite kissing cartoon scenes from TV shows and animated movies!

Jem and Rio from Jem and the Holograms:

There was so much kissing on this show that Jem and the Holograms even created a song about it called "Who is He Kissing?"  The song was about the fact that Jerrica Benton was torn between her alter-ego Jem and her concern that Rio may be falling for the wrong girl, even though she was one and the same!  But poor Rio didn't know that!

Pocahontas and John Smith from Pocahontas:

There was a tempestuous divide between Pocahontas and John Smith's families in this Disney animated film based on the true story of Pocahontas.  This scene was the moment where these two characters who had a fervent attraction to one another was able to seal it with a kiss.  One of my favorite moments in this film.

Gambit and Rogue from X Men (90s Animated series): 

 One of the hottest yet contentious relationships is the world of Marvel, Gambit always had the hots for Rogue. Although Rogue was just as attracted to Gambit as he was, because of her mutant powers, she couldn't kiss Gambit or any other man for that matter. Rogue's powers allowed her the ability to absorb people's energy and she nearly killed her childhood friend when she had her first kiss. Fast forward to 4:26 to see Gambit kiss Rogue.


 

Ariel and Eric from The Little Mermaid: 

Remember the famous song by Sebastian the crab called "Kiss The Girl?" Who could forget that deep percussion beat that played in the background while Eric tried to serenade Ariel in the lake? Unfortunately, Eric didn't get his kiss, but he did in the end. Seeing this final scene makes me wanna cry all over again

Batman and his many women from Batman: The Animated Series: 

Can we just say PLAYA PLAYA? Batman got all the ladies from Catwoman, to Poison Ivy, to well...just anyone who is was basically female. Someone in the world of YouTube was brilliant enough to create a compilation of scenes where Batman engages in some smooches with his lovely leading ladies. Enjoy!

Belle and Beast from Beauty and the Beast: 

How can we forget the kiss that transformed a hairy beast into an incredibly handsome prince? Belle didn't know what she was in for when she kissed who she thought was a beast and instead would become the man of her dreams! This scene is after the beast transformed and Belle and her prince kiss and fully break the spell.
