Tip Tuesday: Homemade Toilet Bowl & Drain Cleaner

So a good friend of mine has been getting into everything homemade recently and because of her enthusiasm it has made me want to do the same. I have always touched on some things like how I make homemade makeup brush cleaner and DIY foam soap but other cleaning products I have slowly been trying out. I'm loving how much they work better, not to mention they aren't toxic chemicals (which drives all of our allergies crazy in this house) and save tons of money to boot.

What you'll need:

Baking Soda
Vinegar
Toilet Bowl Brush
Spray Bottle (optional)

How to:
{toilet bowl cleaner}

First you will want to flush your water in the bowl. There is no need to flush all the water out of your tank. That is just silly and will waste water. Get you a bucket that will hold about a gallon of water and pour it in the bowl all at once. The pressure of the water will cause the bowl to flush on its own. If it does not flush you aren't using enough water, try it again with more water. It takes about a good gallon of water.

Once you have your bowl empty of water you will want to take your baking soda and sprinkle about a cup all around the inside of the bowl. Then you can either spray (using an optional spray bottle) or pour your distilled vinegar into the bowl. The baking soda and the vinegar mixing will cause a bubbling reaction so no worries that is perfectly normal.

When the bubbling has stopped use a toilet bowl brush and scrub the bowl. Afterwards leave the mixture sitting for a few hours. The longer you can leave it sitting the better. Scrub the bowl one last time and flush. Done!

How to:
{Drain Cleaner}

It's super simple! Pour about a cup of baking soda into your drain {kitchen or bathroom} then pour about a 1/2 cup of vinegar and cover the drain. Like I said above in the toilet bowl cleaning how to, the mixture will bubble so you will want to cover it quickly. Leave the mixture to sit for a good 30 minutes or so then run hot water through your pipes to clean the mixture down the drain. Easy Peasy!! Do this once or twice a month to keep them clog free and draining smoothly. :)
