A Quezon City Court has ruled in favor of Esabella Cabrera, winner of 1997 Mutya ng Pilipinas beauty pageant who got unceremoniously dethroned and stripped of her crown.

Pageant Organizer, Miss Asia Pacific Quest Inc. and former head Leandro Enriquez, Carousel Productions Inc. and former head Ramon Monzon; co-organizer Lorraine Schuck and 1997 Mutya ng Pilipinas 1st runner-up Sheryll Moraga were ordered to pay Php1.1 Million in damages to Cabrera.

Moraga was the one who replaced Cabrera and assumed the beauty title and crown, including all the prizes therein that should have otherwise gone to the latter.

Assisting Judge Maria Rita Bascos Sarabia of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 221 rendered favorable decision on the civil suit filed by Cabrera reiterating that Cabrera's getting dethroned was done without due process.

Cabrera was crowned during the pageant held at Folk Arts Theater on May 3, 1997 and won prizes totalling Php 400,000. She was also crowned as Miss Avon and Miss Lux that gave her P10,000 in prizes each, plus commercial modeling contracts from the said cosmetics and beauty product companies.

It was learned that Cabrera was stripped of the crown after Shuck heard that Cabrera was about to get married to her then boyfriend.

Inspite of being told that what she heard was not true, Shuck allegedly forced her to resign and disown the title because Cabrera was also suspected of being pregnant, and thus she wouldn't be able to accomplish her responsibilities as Mutya ng Pilipinas winner.
