Growing up and even still to this day I have always been a fairly shy person. I was one of those kids you found hiding behind their mommies legs whenever they were spoken to. I don't necessarily think that is a bad thing in today's society. Sometimes I wished that my daughter was more like that, especially when she over shares if you know what I mean. haha! Unfortunately as an adult I have found it inhibiting at times.
So when my daughter was born it was important for myself and for my daughter's sake as someone who will eventually become an adult for her to have a strong self esteem. She is very outgoing and will talk a strangers ear off if I let her. When she started Kindergarten back in August this was a problem. She was getting in trouble for being overly excited and talkative. That was a hard one to figure out. You don't want to tell them that talking and being a expressive person is bad, because it's not. It's far from it. However, you also don't want them interrupting the classroom or coming home with notes from the teacher. We finally figured out a way to make it work for us and it has been smooth sailing since then.
It doesn't take long to positively or negatively have a impact on a girl's self-esteem. That is why Kroger has teamed with Dove's Self-Esteem Project to help over 15 million girls with building their own self-esteem. If you have a daughter, niece or just any young girl in your life then you should check out the Dove Self-Esteem Toolkit. It gives you all kinds of great suggestions on making that girl in your life unstoppable.
