The Primordials Anime Project

Angry Gods...Corrupted Politicians...Scorned Voodoo Queens...Undead Vampires...Fanatical Terrorists...HAVE YOU BEEN TO NEW ORLEANS LATELY? Inspired by the Yoruba culture of West Africa and the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, The Primordials audio podcast drama is an urban fantasy about black immortals dwelling in modern day New Orleans. It's Marvel's Thor meets HBO's Treme.

The storyline we're adapting into anime is Book Two: Moon Over Bourbon Street. In this particular story our heroes Shannon Bechet, Otis Armstrong and Yolanda Jackson (also known as the Yoruba Gods Shango, Ogun and Oya) battle against Chef Napoleon Cross and his carnivorus kitchen crew of flesh eating vampires. Book Two's title Moon Over Bourbon Street is taken from a song by the rock icon Sting off his classic The Dream of the Blue Turtles album.

The Jazzy tune tells the tale of an undead vampire wandering the French Quarter helplessly devouring everything he loves in his quest for survival. The Primordials is perfect for anime because our stories deals with issues such as economic recovery, natural disasters, homophobia, slavery, politics, even terrorism, and puts a fresh spin on it. If The Primordials were a live action televison series or feature film it would cost in the hundreds of millions of dollars. The anime art form gives us an opportunity to tell the same epic tale in a much more cost effective way while at the same time maintaining the integrity of the material.
