My daughter is being Rainbow Dash for Halloween. When she told me she wanted to be a My Little Pony I was like "oh ok, cool" we'll find you a simple premade outfit. Ha! The one premade outfit I found didn't have wings and just wasn't going to work for her. So we ended up purchasing a rainbow dash jacket that has a mane, tail and wings. We just need to find her some matching sweatpants to go with it.
She also wanted her own personalized treat bag but after searching around I couldn't come up with anything so it was diy to the rescue time.
What I love about this treat bag is it would go great with all sorts of Halloween costumes for little girls. Like the fairies or princesses they offer here on Pottery Barn Kids.
I picked up a simple petticoat skirt that matched the blue theme for rainbow dash and a cheap canvas bag from Hobby Lobby and got to work.
Step 1: Gather your supplies.
Step 2: Cut the petticoat in half at the seams.
Step 3: Cut off the waist band.
Step 4: Glue down the front and back. I used hot glue but you can use fabric glue as well.
Note: After I cut the skirt in half I realized I probably could have just cut off the waistband and wouldn't had to glue the edging back. I would recommend trying this so that you can have a full intact skirt. If it doesn't lay flat enough or to hard to glue down then you can always cut the skirt in half.
Step 5: Glue down both sides and the trim/edging of the skirt as well.
Step 6: Glue ribbon along the edge so that you can clean up the jagged appearance.
Step 7: Stencil out the name. (optional)
Step 8: Use a fabric pen to paint in the letters.
I was going to put my daughter's name on this bag but she insisted that it was for rainbow dash. Of course, my bad!! You can skip the name step all together or even add on something different like a iron on design. I feel like this might need a little more color so I may go back and get one or two more colors of the same style ribbon and give it somewhat of a rainbow look. Always tweaking something, an artist's work is never done right?
