Black Friday Game Plan

It’s that time of year again, the doors to your favorite stores are opening earlier (and earlier) after Thanksgiving for the unofficial holiday of Black Friday.

A day of door buster deals, holiday gift steals and running with heels--this is no ordinary shopping trip! You can’t just decide to go shopping on Black Friday. A successful day involves a plan (and maybe some training in the weeks leading up to it.)

1. Know where you want to go. Whether you want to stake out a behemoth electronic store for the new game console, or you want options and head to the mall – know where you’re going, because you likely won’t be able to change locations.

2. Know what you’re looking for. Don’t go in blind expecting to find something cool that’s on sale. Have a list of items you want to walk out the door with, otherwise, you might as well be searching for a needle in a stack of needles.

3. Wear comfortable clothes. We get it, we’re women and we like to look good when we’re out public. However, this is not the day (or morning, or late night) for high heels, satin skirts or silk tops. This is the day you wear your yoga pants and tennis shoes to hit the stores. Trust us; you’re entire body will thank you later.

4. Fuel up. There’s a reason Black Friday is the day after (more recently night of) Thanksgiving, you need the energy! Black Friday shopping is a lot like a marathon, you think you’re prepared until you’re 20 miles in, dragging your bag behind you and reaching for the first candy bar at the checkout aisle you see. Don’t weigh yourself down at dinner by eating the whole pan of sweet potatoes, but don’t go in on an empty stomach. Some snacks might be a good idea too!

5. RELAX. After you’ve escaped the madness and finally get home. Fall into the couch, put your feet up and revel in the deals you just won! Make the victory that much sweeter as you enjoy a delicious seasonal cocktail (check out SMIRNOFF’s Gold Digger cocktail recipe below.)

6. For those who can’t stand the crowds on Black Friday and would prefer to participate in some online shopping on Cyber Monday, go ahead and skip steps 1-4 and go right to relaxing after Thanksgiving.
