FCC Chairman Mignon L. Clyburn Announced as Keynote Speaker at FOCUS100 October 4-6

Clyburn to their esteemed roster of world renowned speakers for the 2nd annual FOCUS100 Pitch Bootcamp and Symposium October 4-6, 2013 in New York City. Clyburn will join fellow keynotes three-time Grammy award winner, digital pioneer and founder of several Silicon Valley based startups, MC Hammer; MacArthur “Genius” Award Recipient, Majora Carter; Lisa Lambert, Vice President of Intel Capital; and Stacy Brown Philpot, COO of taskrabbit. The 3-day conference connects tech companies with founders/co-founders who are black women, angel and venture investors, leading corporations, and those interested in the future of tech.

Now in her second term as a Democrat on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) , Chairman Clyburn has served as the Acting Chairman of the FCC since her appointment by President Barack Obama in May of this year. Clyburn began her service at the FCC in August, 2009, after spending 11 years as a member of the sixth district on the Public Service Commission (PSC) of South Carolina. The Chairman has been a long-term advocate for media ownership rules that reflect the demographics of America, affordable universal telephone and high-speed internet access, greater broadband deployment and adoption throughout the nation, and transparency in regulation.

This year’s FOCUS100 boasts a startup bootcamp, a symposium and the newly added Global Mobile Hackathon ™, a 24-hour Google sponsored event focuses on the development of applications that seek to enhance life in urban communities around the globe. 25% of the hackers slated for attendance will be black women.
