Antisparkle is an apparel company based in Orlando, Florida that features original, stylized, character designs created by Monique Malcolm. The brand was created in 2009 just months after the economy tanked and Monique lost her teaching job. Ever the optimist, Monique decided to Chase The Stars with her business degree and used her creativity as a basis for Antisparkle.
“I liked the idea of putting my influence on casual fashion. Growing up in Florida you don’t have four distinct seasons you only have hot and hotter. Designing t-shirts not only seemed fitting but also made sense.”
Antisparkle’s first designs were hand-drawn and screened character tees that capture the personality of the wearer. From that initial launch, the line has expanded to include tote bags and a variety of jewelry.
"Seeing the possibilities of what can be printed really pushed me into graphic design. I have no formal design background just the tricks that I have learned through trial and error. My characters are simple but it’s the cuteness factor and the message that attracts people.”
All of Antisparkle’s designs are drawn, vectorized, and printed in house. The process is very hands-on but that is what makes Antisparkle unique. Every item that the company produces goes through Monique’s hands. This attention to detail makes every design a limited run, wearable piece of art.
“My focus is on outfitting people for everyday life. I design clothing to be worn to barbecues, concerts, class, or any event. The designs are cool enough to wear everyday and I hope that people love them.” -Monique Malcolm
