A Fashionable Nerd
Is it possible to be fashionable and be a nerd? Most people do not think that nerdy girls, such as myself, can be fashionable. And no I'm not talking about the hipster fashion, I'm actually talking about me having my own look.
Well I guess you can say that I wear the "typical nerd wear", but I make it my own.Yes I wear glasses, but not the thick plastic ones (they hurt and itch my face after awhile). Yes I also wear converses, but I'm five foot seven. No wants me to tower over them in heels and make them feel uncomfortable. Plus heels are not comfortable no matter how you try to say it is. Well I don't wear skinny jeans or cardigans because first of all I can't fit all this jelly in skinny jeans. Second, I live in Georgia and it is way too hot to wear a cardigans. I love dresses! I love printed dresses, lace dresses, belted dresses, and fitted dresses. I've always loved dresses and flats and I feel like that's my uniform. I feel like myself when I wear dresses with crazy print tights.
And guess what? I didn't think that I was supposed to dress the way that people think I should dress. I feel like it's a win win situation when I dress the way I do. When I wear dresses, tights and flats, I get accused of not being nerdy enough. But if I wear comic book printed t shirt, jeans and converses, then I'm trying too hard. If I feel like wearing it, I'm going to wear it.
In my fashion classes, I hear people say that want to design clothes with the nerdy aesthetic. What does that mean? Does it mean that on Fashion Week, I'm going to see X Men characters on a dress? I can't deal with see someone like Taylor Swift wearing "nerdy fashion". I believe that people should find what makes them comfortable and wear it. Once you find you niche you should make it your own and be yourself. I just want to beg people not to wear "nerdy fashion" and wear their own signature look. I think that many people wants to fit in with everyone, but why would you want to look like everyone else? I love having my own style. I'm hear to tell you that I can look fashionable and a nerd. And so can you.
