Jaw Dropping Draws

Jaw dropping draws, say that 10 times really fast!

I have a little fantasy, it's that one day, the team from Better Homes and Gardens, will waltz through my living room and say, "Well Mel, the whole of Australia, if not the world have been waiting for this day, the home is finally finished. WOW what an amazing outcome" Then Fast Ed, will go into the kitchen and whip up something quick and we will all sit around, marveling at my awesomeness.

At this point, a kid usually breaks my daydream with, "Mum, I can't find the.....(insert whatever is actually in front of them, but would have required them to move their neck to see)

Realistically this is never likely to happen, however this chest of draws makeover is currently my pride and joy. I pictured in my head having one of the Sesame Street characters on each draw, I knew I didn't want to paint it because I'm lazy, time poor and not ready for that type of project. I was going to just put stickers on it, when a "light bulb" moment occurred and I thought, what about vinyl.

The results A-MAZ-ING!

I'm hoping you're agreeing with me, pure awesomeness, here's what I did.

Supplies:

Vinyl
Scissors
Pictures to copy (or free hand if you are more artistically talented than I)

I cut out all the characters faces, by hand, so no cutting machine, no worries, any one can do something like this.

Covered the draws with the appropriate colored vinyl, then stuck the faces on.

It wouldn't be a Mellywood project without a slight hitch I called Jule's to have a look, I'm all excited then, notice the draw, I stuck the darn face on upside down! (again, I swear I do have a brain, I just don't always use it)

Re stuck the face on correctly, luckily it came off easily and was not damaged.

Then repeated for the rest of them.

There you have it, a no paint do over and the best part, when they get sick of Sesame Street, and they will at some point, it peels straight off and I have a perfect set of white draws waiting underneath.

DIY Delight or Disaster? Are you kidding me? This is the most awesome thing I have ever done. It came out exactly the same as I imagined. The boys and Jules were actually speechless for more than a minute and when Madeleine saw it she breathed, "Oh Wow!" = 1000% Delight! Vinyl and I are now friends again :)

What do you think?

Thanks for reading

Mel xoxo - that's an extra hug and kiss, because I'm so excited!
