My daughter loves to read or shall I say she loves to be read to. At 6 years old she is just learning to read so we do a lot of reading together. It has become our nightly routine and you better believe if you try to skip out on it she is going to let you know. I am ok with that though. We have a lot of fun reading together. It is a great bonding time. Here lately she has been into more science type books and wanting to learn about all sorts of things. Her latest books brought home from school have been about lightning and tornadoes. When I told her about getting to read this book series Travels with Gannon & Wyatt she was excited. We started off slowly reading a few chapters every night and gradually reading whenever we could find extra time. It was that good. This series is more geared towards middle grade kids as far as being able to read the whole series themselves but if you like to read to your children then this is perfect for the kid who loves adventures and learning about new places and their cultures.
As a mom, I loved that these books provided some great life lessons. They are kid-friendly reads without all of today's vampires and supernatural beings. Yet, it still managed to keep an adult entertained.
Travels with Gannon & Wyatt: Botswana was my daughter's favorite. She loved getting to hear about all the animals especially the rhinos and lions, as a animal lover herself. She also enjoyed learning about the villagers of Africa and how they live. It's a great teaching lesson on how not everyone gets to live with luxuries that we take for granted, like running water.
What we enjoyed most about the books as a whole were how they were written in journal style format. It told the individual perspectives of both Gannon and Wyatt, as well as sharing some great photos to go along with the reading. The journal entries aloud us to read a few entries for each twin a night and have a great stopping point. It worked out perfect.
I would recommend this book series for ages 6-12, especially for boys but the adventurous girl, like my daughter, would love it as well.
