What To Do When You Want To Do Too Much

Your interests stretch farther than the eye can see. Is there such thing as being too well-rounded? There might be such a thing, and it’s really been weighing on me for the last few years. What do you do when you want to do too much? Sometimes I feel like I could save the world if I could only utilize every hour of the day on something productive.

After high school, I went to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for music. I was in band from 5th to 12th grade, I took piano my senior year, and I was in chorus all of high school. Going to UNCG for music was a no-brainer, then I changed my major three times within the first semester. After partying the rest of my school year away, I returned home and dove straight into attending community college.

“You can never go wrong with a profession in the medical field.” –Almost Every Person Ever.

Keeping that in mind and considering my fear of messing up more than I can fix, I decided to concentrate on Medical Office Administration. They'll always need someone to run the offices and keep things in check from clinics to hospitals. I’m sure I’ll land a position somewhere, but something is missing. I love keeping things in order and being the boss, but that’s not where my passion lies.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve always wanted to help a cause. I held penny drives at my elementary school so that I could buy toys for hospitalized and homeless youth. I volunteered at animal shelters and churches. I’ve always wanted to help someone or something. It wasn’t until my second to last semester at community college that I discovered Peace Corps. How did I not know about them sooner?

With all of the services that they offer, I can volunteer and help in a different way every time. I’d get to dabble in things that I never thought I’d get to do, I’d get to travel and help those who need it most, and I’d get to experience different cultures while doing it. Peace Corps is all of my passions rolled into one opportunity, and there’s no doubt that I’d write about my experiences.

So what do you do when you want to do too much? Think of all of the things that you love or would love to do. Think of how they relate or how you can do one while doing another. You love the English language and traveling? Become an ESL teacher in another country. Find your Peace Corps and live the way you’ve dreamed. It’s possible.
